Welcome to Bedford

A bucolic and historic paradise in Westchester County, New York

With large country estates interspersed amongst single family homes, Bedford is a visually stunning place to call home. Composed of three unincorporated hamlets, Bedford Village, Bedford Hills and Katonah, the area is bursting with rich history and wonderful resources for its residents. A true gem of Westchester County, Bedford is idyllic for those seeking a sophisticated, yet relaxed lifestyle among friendly neighbors.

Committed to excellence in every facet of the community, Bedford strives to create a welcoming place for its residents for the present and the future. The town is part of a 2030 Climate Action Plan to bring sustainable practices to residences, businesses, and the outdoors to Bedford by 2030. With plans to utilize solar systems, energy-efficient options in every home, increased public transportation and bike paths, and sustainable farming, Bedford is ahead of the curve when it comes to making positive decisions for the community.

What to Love

  • The town is quite literally rooted in history — the 400-year-old Bedford Oak sits in the Village Green as a visual representation of strength, perseverance, and community ties
  • Over 150 miles of trails to explore on horseback or on foot
  • Abundance of options across all three hamlets, no matter where you live

Local Lifestyle

Residents of Bedford enjoy a casual yet modern lifestyle. Community-focused and tight-knit, there is always an opportunity to get involved in local events, fundraisers and festivals. Although Bedford is known for its picturesque horse farms and equestrian facilities, many residents do not ride but instead take advantage of the outdoors by hiking and biking, playing tennis and golf, and engaging in other sporting activities.

Enjoy lazy afternoons perusing the shelves at one of three local libraries, window-shop in the business districts, or enjoy a walk or hike on one of the dirt roads, the riding trails or in one of the nature preserves.  Living in Bedford is ideal for just about anyone and, with the option of excellent public and private schools, it’s the perfect place to raise a family away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
